Our Creative Corner: A Color Challenge

As I told you already,  I am back from SU! convention and full of energy. I don't know if it happens to everyone but convention invigorates us and it is like we charge our batteries. I think that that's what it's all about, but I am ready to create! This week the OCC  challenge is to use fabrics and/or circles and these colors:

I am going to tell you the truth, when I started creating my card I wanted to do something similar that I had seen at convention, but when I was almost done I saw that one of my design teammates had a very similar card. Because she had made it first, I had to respect that and I changed mine.

I started with a piece of natural muslin, covered with multi-medium matte gel medium, and put designer series paper with the newspaper print on top. I applied another coat of gel medium to get the paper well glued on the fabric. Once it was dry, I applied some white and light blue acrylic. I stamped the Medallion on top with Lucky Limeade ink and let it dry.

I added the decoration with Poppy Parade, Lucky Limeade and Pretty in Pink cardstock. I stamped some images from the Circle Circus stamp set (W 115778, C 127784), and finally splattered some black paint with the spritzer tool (107066).

Make sure to check out the OCC blog to see what the design team has created to keep your juices flowing.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

The Friday Mashup #69

Hi everybody!! Hope you are enjoying your summer as much as I am. I am back from convention and ready for another week at the Friday Mashup. This week Lisa is our hostess and I hope all of you out there participate in this fun challenge about Christmas.

I am pretty sure you've heard of Christmas in July, so get ready then and make a card for our challenge. Hope to see you there, and don't forget to check out the FM blog and see what the design team has created to inspire you.Have fun!

Here's how I made my card:
1) I stamped the pine trees on Whisper White cardstock. I used Certainly Celery and Always Artichoke markers to color the stamp, so the image, when you stamp it, will show the pine trees in the background a lighter color than those on the foreground.
2) I applied glue on the area where the snow is and spread Iridescent Ice emboss powder.
3) I stamped the girl from Greeting Card Kids stamp set (W 119887, C 120633), and the bird on the snow ball from Snow Much Fun (W 122560, C 122562) with StazOn (101406), and then colored them in with AquaPainter brushes (103954) and Raspberry Ripple (126859), Midnight Muse (126860), Summer Starfruit (126991), Bashful Blue (126991), and Gumball Green (126861) ink pads. I used Blush Blossom marker (100037) for the face.
4) For the inside of the card, I stamped Sending Wishes sentiment from the Christmas Lodge stamp set (W 123767, C 123769) and used the Adorning Accents Edgelits (125595).

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!

Our Creative Corner Makeover Challenge

This week at Our Creative Corner we have a  makeover challenge! The idea is to look through your old stash to find a cringe-worthy card, then pick something you liked about the card (could be anything, like the design or the colors you used, or maybe just the sentiment), and make it over!

Here is my original card from my pre-blogging days. I had it in an old stash, and when I cringed when I saw it, I knew this would be the one to get a makeover! I like the overall design, but I find it lifeless and boring. Too monochromatic! The finishings are a bit sloppy too (like the way I cut out the hearts).

Here is my makeover card. I kept the design, but added lots of color and contrast to make the design elements pop, and bring the card to life!

Be sure to stop by the OCC blog to see the stunning makeovers the other designers have created for you!

Thanks for stopping by!

Friday Mashup #67: Wave your Flag!

Banners, banners, banners all around. That is the theme for the Friday Mashup this week. You know what? I've never been very fond of banners and to be honest, I didn't know how to put them in my card in a way where I could feel comfortable with them. When Stampin' UP! started to sell them in the catalog, I purchased them with the idea of liking them, but on the contrary, I kept them on the shelves. It took some time until I saw some cards that I liked with banners. So I gave it a try and started getting along with them (lol), and I include them in my cards pretty often now! It was a process of liking and disliking, and unbelievably it happened with stamps. Did this ever happen to you with stamps also?

When I saw that Holly's challenge this week, I didn't have any problem to include banners in my project! Check out the FM blog to get inspired by the creations that the design team has prepared for you!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!

  2. Or Make a project with a "Matching Envelope."
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project with a "Banner / Flag & a Matching Envelope."

Our Creative Corner: Bakin' Beauties

I could not miss the Our Creative Corner challenge this week! Sweet things are my favorite, and I love to decorate cakes and model cake toppers.

To create this card, I used modeling paste, which is made out of powdered sugar, glucose, vegetable shortening (Crisco), and water. I had the paste prepared in advance, because I usually model cake toppers every week. I rolled out the dough and then pressed a stamp onto the dough. I painted the stamp with food coloring paint, and added sprinkles in the center of each flower. I finished it off by sprinkling glitter on top (I used Disco Clear Food Glitter from ColorArt-non toxic!). Finally, with a brush, I splattered food coloring onto the white cardstock.

Hope you like my card! Thanks for stopping by!
